The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services and the Missouri Hospital Association is conducting a survey to help assist in identifying current gaps in syphilis testing as well as opportunities to create positive impacts for patients seeking care in the emergency department.

In Missouri, the rate of syphilis infection in pregnant women between 2016 and 2022 increased 341% along with a rise in cases of congenital syphilis in newborns. As syphilis rates rise, emergency departments may be a way for people with limited health care access to get screening and treatment.

This is an anonymous survey for ER providers that only takes 5 minutes to complete. It will help to identify any gaps that may be preventing providers from ordering a syphilis test in the emergency department. The survey will close on Friday, November 1st.
