There are a lot of legislative changes occurring in the United States right now, creating confusion and unpredictability in how best to ensure better health outcomes in the Southeast Missouri region. During times of uncertainty, it may be difficult to know how to take action on the things that matter most to the communities that we serve. One of the most effective ways to advocate for these issues is to call our local representatives.

Phone calls are the most effective method of communicating with our local representatives. The staff on the other end of the line have to keep track of how many people are calling about each issue, which helps both the representative and their staff to know which issues are most important to their constituents. Below is contact information for the Southeast Missouri Region representatives:

  • Cape Girardeau Office (573) 334-5995

  • Columbia Office (573) 554-1919

Before calling your local representatives, it is beneficial to know what you would like to say. Having a script to follow can help you address the issue that you are concerned about and also keep the call short. Here is an example of a calling script that you can use:

"Hi, my name is ... and I'm calling from [town/zip code/county].

I'm calling [House Member/Senator] to speak out against and voice my concerns about [the President's freezing of all federal aid, etc.]. Congress worked hard to make laws and allocate funds according to the needs of Missouri's communities.

As a member of Congress, it is critical to take action and ensure that people in Missouri's needs are met."

Many websites provide similar calling scripts. One of these websites is 5 Calls, which provides calling scripts that are specific to the issues currently facing the United States.
